Wednesdays at the Table

On Wednesday, October 14, Bertera Subaru of Hartford opened its doors for the first Wednesdays at the Table, a free community lunch presented in partnership with Angel of Edgewood.

Hosting this event at our dealership brings our Subaru Love Promise directly to the community we call home. By providing a place for neighbors to enjoy a warm meal and connect, we're continuing our commitment to supporting Hartford families.

Led by O'Neal McDonald of Bertera Subaru and Ebony Walker of Angel of Edgewood, this first lunch marked the beginning of a weekly initiative that will continue every Wednesday leading up to Thanksgiving.

About Our Community Partner: Angel of Edgewood

At Bertera Subaru of Hartford, we're proud to partner with organizations that understand our community and respond when our neighbors need help. Angel of Edgewood is one of those partners.

A Hartford-based grassroots nonprofit founded by Jendayi Scott Miller, Angel of Edgewood supports individuals and families throughout Greater Hartford. What began with preparing meals for seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into a broader mission of helping neighbors access food, essential resources, and support during difficult times.

Their dedication to serving people with dignity aligns with our commitment to the Subaru Love Promise. Through this partnership, our team has opportunities to reach families, understand local needs, and help where our support can make a difference.

How Bertera Subaru of Hartford Gets Involved

Our involvement takes many forms. We contribute funding, provide transportation, organize supplies, serve meals, and volunteer alongside our community partners.

Sometimes that means responding quickly to an urgent need at a food pantry. Other times, it means spending a day helping children find a new winter coat or making sure residents can reach a free dental clinic.

Wednesdays at the Table continues that commitment by opening our dealership to neighbors for a free weekly lunch. It builds on a partnership that has already brought our team into schools, neighborhoods, and community events across Hartford.

What We've Accomplished Together

Helping Students Start the School Year Strong

For two consecutive years, Bertera Subaru of Hartford has supported Angel of Edgewood's back-to-school events, helping local children prepare for the classroom. As a headline sponsor of the Back to School Bonanza, we joined dozens of community organizations to connect families with school supplies and resources.

Our support helps students begin the year prepared, while easing some of the pressure that back-to-school expenses can place on families.

Providing 300 New Winter Coats at Fred D. Wish School

Our team partnered with Angel of Edgewood and Operation Warm to provide 300 brand-new winter coats to students at Hartford's Fred D. Wish School.

We joined students as they tried on their coats, sharing in their excitement and helping provide an everyday necessity for the colder months. It was a meaningful opportunity to support local children with something they could use and call their own.

Responding to an Urgent Need at the YWCA Food Pantry

When Angel of Edgewood alerted us to urgent food needs at the YWCA Hartford Region, Bertera Subaru of Hartford responded with a $1,000 donation to help replenish its pantry.

That contribution supported food assistance for the women, men, and families who rely on the pantry. It reflects an important part of our partnership: listening when a need arises and taking action to help.

Delivering Meals to Neighbors in Frog Hollow

Our team also worked alongside Angel of Edgewood to distribute 200 bagged lunches and 12 cases of water in Hartford's Frog Hollow neighborhood.

Starting at our dealership, we loaded vans with lunches prepared by Zohara's catering before heading into the neighborhood together. The effort provided immediate meal support and gave our employees another opportunity to connect directly with the people we serve.

Helping More Than 150 Residents Access Free Dental Care

Bertera Subaru of Hartford joined Angel of Edgewood and Community Health Services to support a Free Dental Mission that provided care to more than 150 community members.

Volunteer dental professionals performed screenings, cleanings, fillings, and extractions. Our team helped make the day possible by providing transportation, assisting with registration and patient processing, and supplying lunch for the volunteers.

Supporting Families Through Project Angel Wings

Through Angel of Edgewood's Project Angel Wings Christmas Event, Bertera Subaru of Hartford supported holiday gifts for families raising children with special needs.

Our participation helped bring joy to children and offered families a reminder that their community cares about them during a season that can bring added financial and emotional pressure.
